Biografia de Heitor Villa-Lobos:
Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) foi maestro e compositor brasileiro, considerado o expoente máximo da música do modernismo no Brasil.
Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) nasceu no Rio de Janeiro, no dia 5 de março de 1887. Recebeu orientação musical ainda criança. No ano de 1915 Villa-Lobos começou sua vida profissional como instrumentista e com 19 anos de idade fez suas primeiras composições.
Em 1922 participou da semana de arte realizada em São Paulo. No ano de 1923, viajou para a Europa e só voltou ao Brasil no ano de 1929. Muitas orquestras foram dirigidas por ele. Escreveu várias composições. Organizou um coral de 12.000 vozes em São Paulo no ano de 1931, acontecimento de grande importância na América do Sul. Fez várias viagens pelo mundo dirigindo com entusiasmo suas próprias composições. Recebeu grande incentivo de Debussy e Stravinski.
Em suas viagens pelo Brasil, fez pesquisas e anotou em seu diário as muitas modalidades musicais do folclore brasileiro, para depois analisar e formar suas composições. São muitas as peças que compôs, as que mais se destacaram foram os choros em número de 16, esses choros foram compostos no período de 1920 a 1929. São mais de mil composições conhecidas.
Durante sua vida recebeu 24 títulos do Instituto da França. Era membro da Academia de Belas Artes em Nova Iorque e Comendador da Ordem de Mérito do Brasil. Recebeu o título de Doutor Honoris Causa pela Universidade de Nova Iorque, e o de fundador e primeiro presidente da Academia Brasileira de Música.
Heitor Villa-Lobos faleceu no Rio de Janeiro, no dia 17 de novembro do ano de 1959. Foi sepultado no Cemitério de São João Batista.
